Risen Trailer: A New Take On Christian Cinema

Last updated on March 17th, 2017 at 01:01 am

The Christian Noir Detective Tale

As a cinema-loving Christian, I am always encouraged by filmmakers who choose to tell a Christ-related story. It is one of those touchy subjects that typically doesn’t get a lot of buzz. The verse stating, “All fall short to the glory of God”, should also apply to Christian filmmaking. They just don’t cut it. One of the notable exceptions is Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. Fortunately, the latest trailer for Risen also shows some promise of actually being amazing. Risen is described by its lead, Joseph Fiennes, as a ‘Noir Detective Tale” about the events following the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It is probably one of the most interesting storylines that have ever come out of Biblical history. The Bible’s account after the resurrection focuses on the disciples and their mission to spread the good news. Risen centers around a Clavius, a nonbeliever and a Roman guard. Clavius acts as a detective searching for the missing body of Jesus Christ. The premise is entirely original and is extremely promising. What did you think about the Risen? Do you think it will accurately and respectfully interpret the Bible? Will Risen top The Passion of the Christ? Leave your comments below!
