Watch: Dare To Play In Latest ‘Nerve’ Trailer

Nerve featuring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco

We’ll Just Be Watching

Have you ever wished you were the adventurous type? Are you a watcher or a player? Would you would take any dare no matter what the consequences? Well, that seems to be what co-stars Emma Roberts and Dave Franco have to decide in the trailer for Nerve. Emma plays Vee Delmonico, a high schooler fed up with living a sheltered life. She signs up for the popular online game Nerve and decides to participate in a supposedly harmless dare. The dares continue to intensify as Vee is paired with a mysterious man (Dave Franco) and finds herself trapped in a high stakes game of chance that may cost her life.

Nerve Fails To Impress

I’ve seen the Nerve trailer several times both online and in the cinemas. Sadly, I haven’t really been feeling it. Emma Roberts has never been a very strong presence. Her character looks to be playing the typical innocent girl who is way in over her head. The role could have been easily filled by many actresses like Chloe Grace Moretz or Shailene Woodley, who are superior actresses.

Alongside Emma Roberts is Dave Franco, who I’ve warmed up to in recent months because of the Now You See Me franchise. Still, Dave seems to be playing the typical pretty boy and as fun of an actor as he can be, I don’t think it will be enough to save this film.

The Nerve To Download This App?

How about the concept? Nerve looks to have an interesting premise: A popular app that takes the world by storm. Not dissimilar to our recent Pokemon Go craze. Unlike Pokemon Go’s cute and fun-filled gameplay, Nerve, requires you to take on various dares that increase in danger as you complete them. In the world of questionable apps that overstep privacy and safety, Nerve has a really promising idea that could exist today. Still, we’ve had plenty of films with interesting concepts that don’t deliver (cough*, Jumper).

I am not sold on Nerve, but maybe it will actually surprise audiences. What do you think about Nerve? Comment below!
